The Challenge
In a world full of things to get done, not everyone has the capabilities or desires of their own tasks, for various reasons.
How could we make completing tasks easier while striving for fun?
Project goals
The goals of this project would focus on it's users, those trying to complete chores as easy and fun as possible.
Goal 1: Provide an easy way to connect with others
Goal 2: An easy way to list and display exactly what needs to get done
Goal 3: Provide a safe environment for those connecting within a community
Goal 4: Maintain a affordable-ness, cost friendly way of getting tasks done
Key insights
Based on competitive research and user survey interview responses.
Insight 1:
Current apps that have users doing tasks for each other don't really monitor or display the quality of their users. Based on user reviews and feedback, they do not track in any way how the people using their apps are performing for others.
Solution: Allowing app users and taskers, to leave reviews on each other, which would allow all other users to see the quality of their tasker before swapping.
Insight 2:
Current apps have excessive fees and charges. In a comparative manner, I believe this would translate to having tasks posted with fees or limiting the amount of task swapping before the user is prompted to provide some type of payment.
Solution: Not limiting users to a certain number of task requests. All tasks should be accessible whenever, swapping a task ideally at an equal level instead of payment.
Insight 3:
Most users are tight on time, and are often frustrated dealing with late completion of jobs or tasks within other apps, defeating one of the main purposes of using them; to save time.
Solution: Adding some sort of date and time aspect to the tasks. This would allow for users to get a more accurate solution and allow for flexibility.
Key features
After all consideration of competitive research and user survey interviews based on their experiences with current similar products, some key app features were noted to include for ideation. Some of these features include a basic profile for all users which include things like reviews, a 'swiping' sort of idea for users choosing what other tasks they wish to swap with, and the ability to connect with traders through inbox.
User process
Once all the research was completed, insights and ideal features were established, I defined how the process would work for users creating and swapping a task for other postings.
Step 1
Create a task, they will choose a category, location, a date and time, photos and a description.
Step 2
From here, users will view tasks that are swapable for their current task.
Step 3
The user will select at least one task they would do in exchange, and then they wait.
Step 4
The last step of this process is to complete the task the user swapped for their own.
Ideation and development
This phase includes early stage concepts as well as branding and design development. I started with early wireframes in Figma, followed by developing a branding style, which allowed me to create high fidelity mockups. From there, I prototyped my design, bringing the product to life.
Product testing
After creating and prototyping the high fidelity design, I had users go through and test it. This included instructing users to complete certain tasks while I watched and took notes based on their comments, completion, and navigation as they moved through the app.
Change 1:
The first major change was to labels. In the case to the right it's numbers, providing users a more clear indication to follow steps, helping keep them on track of their process. Another place labels were updated was on the homepage, making user's To-do tasks and their requested tasks more clear (this can be seen above).
Users addresses are also not always fully labeled for safety concerns. Addresses are not shown to other users in the trade select portion, users will see addresses once both parties agree to swap tasks with one another.
Change 2:
The second big change is a friend section is now added. This makes it easy for roommates, family, or close friends to easily connect on tasks if needed without having to make an entire trading post if they regularly can complete the task for them. This adds the simple feature to other users profiles, allowing swappers to quickly connect and get in touch.
Final thoughts
To conclude this project, users expressed that they saw this product as useful and something they could see themselves using. The app has the key features I initially made note of, serving it's purpose of making lives easier for people in shared communities. This app makes connecting accessible for all users, no matter what reason they list their chore. If I created this project again, some things I would do differently would maybe be to make the actual tasks users are trading, swipe-able, like seen in some dating apps for example. This could prompt users to select more while increasing chances of a match to swap. This app could also offer more categories or even encourage users more to help others who's tasks rank higher difficulty than theirs. This could be an opportunity for many features.
